just a quick note to say thanks for all the comments today regarding the manhattan morning painting, just to answer a few questions- that piece took about 6-7 weeks, which was pretty good going for me, the last painting took nearer 3 months, basically im a geek! i just kinda have an idea how i want my paintings to look and i have to stick with em till they look right!, in term of the work looking like a photo i can understand that, i work from a few different photographs to get a better overview, painting onto a black canvas so that the work keeps a darkness to it. the images here dont really show it but im actually quite a messy git of a painter, im constantly having to redo sections as my technique can get real sloppy, up close i kinda like how you get to see all those mistakes an errors that i make.
in terms of aiming for a perfect technique you have to check out simon hennessy, tom martin or philip munoz who show at the plus one gallery, those boys have an awesome style of painting.
thanks again, im happy with the way the new manhattan paintings are going although i do hope to work on some different subject matter later in the year, dont want to be a one trick pony!
